The development of Juniors at Trojans is probably the main reason for the Club's long-term success. Over the years, we have built up links with many of the local schools and today have approximately 500 Junior members. The sports tuition that we provide is through well-qualified and accredited coaches, and the rate we charge the Juniors is remarkably reasonable, just enough to cover our costs. Once a Junior becomes a member, they can play any of the main sports, or as quite a few do, all of them.

As a young boy in the 70s (1970s), the current Trojans chairman, Campbell Williams, graced the hockey pitch with style and finesse. In those days, there were 3 grass hockey pitches and a red shale 'All-weather' pitch. Southampton Football Club also used the grass for training. Apart from that, little has changed over the years, except for the evolution of the 'Astroturf' plastic pitch.

In those days Trojans was at the forefront of Junior hockey, and it is pleasing to note that here nothing has changed - in fact, each of the sports sections now has a thriving Junior section.

Whichever sport you play at Trojans, there is a major emphasis on developing juniors - more than half our membership are Juniors, and many of them are offspring of senior members.

There are at least two ex-Trojan Juniors in the current Beijing 2008 Olympic squads, and it's a fair chance that there will be more in the London 2012 squads as well.

Meanwhile the Trojans chairman continues to grace the hockey field.
